Lionel Messi was at his best during Barcelona’s 3-0 trashing of Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions league semi-final fixtures on Wednesday.
While the score is not surprising, Barcelona made a statement that they are the best team in Europe this season and they are showing no signs of slowing down.
Messi almost single handed broke Munich’s heart with a clinical finish in the 77 minutes from his left foot. The Argentine striker beat Manuel Neuer again three minutes later.
No one saw Barcelona winning by a three-goal margin but Neymar put the final nail in the coffin in the final two minutes of the game with an assist from Messi who attacked a loose ball like a wild cat going after a lone mouse.
Credits to Pep Guardiola’s weaken side for holding off the South American trio for majority of the game. In the end Lionel Messi was just too good for the Germans.
“Messi is just superb,” ex-Barcelona striker, Thierry Henry, said. “He wanted to win that game and he did it again. You just give him the ball around the box and the rest is history. Maybe Bayern Munich didn’t approach the game in the right way in the first half, but in the second half there wasn’t much between the two teams. Then Lionel Messi decided to win that game.”
“I have seen him doing stuff in training and it is just amazing,” Henry added. “When he gets upset, he runs around the whole team. There is nothing you can do.”
It's such a joy to watch Messi. The greatest!

“We tried to control the ball, but we knew they’d want it too. Our effectiveness in the last few minutes is what decided the game,” Iniesta said during a post game news conference.
“Leo Messi does things that nobody else does. We are lucky to be able to enjoy having him … I take my hat off to him once again. He makes us happyâ€.
“We know what football is like. This is a semi-final against Bayern. Nothing has been decided yet because there are still 90 minutes to go and we’ll have to get things very right in Munich if we want to play the finalâ€.
“We shouldn’t start thinking that nobody can beat us. We have to keep doing this, because if we stop, there are other very good teams and when you least expect it they can beat youâ€.
